Paul Mescal Reveals Scale Of Unexpected Fandom Of New Sport Team

Paul Mescal had a strong sporting background before his permanent move into the world of acting, looking like one of the most promising GAA players in Kildare in his youth.

The Maynooth clubman represented the county through various age groups, eventually playing three years at minor and winning a Leinster title in 2013. He would also play in a Leinster U21 final in 2015.

Mescal has since hung up his boots, although it seems as though he has developed a fascination with a new sport in recent times.

Paul Mescal Reveals Scale Of Obsession With New Sport Team

Paul Mescal remains a big fan of Irish sport, attending All-Ireland finals and Ireland rugby internationals in recent years. He has also apparently become obsessed with a very different sport across the Atlantic.

Speaking to GQ, the Kildare man revealed that he is now a huge baseball fan, with the Boston Red Sox his team of choice.

I take baseball very seriously now, I take it very seriously. Major League Baseball.

It's true, the last year. I went to my first Major League Baseball game at Fenway Park, Red Sox fan.

It's a partner connection. We were right beside the dugout, but I was into it before that. Like I watch the highlights on my phone every morning in the chair.

Cricket is less interesting to me. I'm a big Red Sox boy. I think that's relatively surprising.

Paul Mescal's musician girlfriend Gracie Abrams is a big Boston Red Sox fan, something that has now apparently rubbed off on the Irishman.

2025 was not a great year to become a Red Sox. The Boston team would finish third in their division, before losing to old rivals the New York Yankees in the first round of the play-offs.

In fairness, as a Kildare fan, Paul Mescal is fairly well used to sporting disappointment.
