Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the first Indian and second bowler overall in IPL history to take 25 wickets in a season for multiple teams.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is leading the fast-bowling attack of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2026. On Tuesday (May 26), during Qualifier 1 against Gujarat Titans in Dharamsala, he entered the record books by becoming the first Indian bowler to take 25 wickets in an IPL season for multiple teams.

Bhuvneshwar, who picked up 26 wickets in 14 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2017, needed one wicket in the ongoing match against GT to complete 25 wickets in IPL 2026 for RCB. He achieved the milestone by dismissing GT skipper Shubman Gill on the first ball of the fourth over.

Before Bhuvneshwar, only Kagiso Rabada had managed to take 25 wickets in an IPL season for multiple teams. Rabada, who has represented Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans in the IPL, achieved the feat earlier in the ongoing match.

Bhuvneshwar is now the first Indian and only the third bowler in IPL history, after Dwayne Bravo and Rabada, to take 25 wickets in multiple IPL seasons.

Bravo picked up 32 wickets for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2013 and followed it up with 26 wickets in the 2015 season. Rabada, meanwhile, claimed 25 wickets for Delhi Capitals in 2019 and 30 wickets in 2020 before extending his tally to 26 wickets for GT in IPL 2026.

At 36 years and 110 days old (as of May 26, 2026), Bhuvneshwar is also the second-oldest bowler in IPL history after Imran Tahir to take 25 wickets in a single IPL season.
