Barcelona midfielder Gavi admitted he was thrilled to see Ansu Fati and Hector Fort start against Real Mallorca on Tuesday.

The two players were both given chances by Hansi Flick after struggling for minutes so far this season.

Gavi spoke after the 1-0 win and admitted he loved to see Flick make changes to his side for the game which was won thanks to a sole goal by Dani Olmo.

“I think we played a great game. I’m very happy because there are players who rotated, and I’m very happy for them. We could have resolved it sooner, but oh well,” he told the media. “I’m so happy for them because they’re like brothers to me. I’m very happy for them.”

Barcelona should have won far more comfortably and ended up taking 40 shots during the 90 minutes. Gavi praised goalkeeper Leo Roman but knows his team were guilty of wasting chances.

“The goalkeeper had a great game. We had many chances that we could have taken advantage of, but that’s football. It’s not always easy to score. We kept at it until the goal came, and that’s what’s important,” he added. “Pedri, if not the best in his position, is one of the best. It’s a luxury to play with him.”

Barcelona now turn their attention to a Copa del Rey final on Saturday against Real Madrid.
