Bruno Guimaraes drops transfer hint as Arsenal handed conditions to complete deal

Newcastle United skipper Bruno Guimaraes has uploaded a selfie of himself wearing a club bucket hat while on holiday. The Magpies captain has been linked with a move to Arsenal all summer, but his latest post suggests he may remain in the north East.

Earlier in the transfer window, Guimaraes was reported to have informed the club he wants to pursue pastures new. However, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe recently claimed he held positive talks with the Brazilian and that he is expected back in training by July 31.

He has returned home for his summer break, where he recently went on a boat trip. It was during this activity he posted a selfie grinning while wearing the Newcastle hat.

The midfielder has otherwise remained quiet on his X account with his last Newcastle-related post dating back to 28th May. At present, the Magpies have still yet to receive a formal offer for Bruno from Arsenal with Newcastle making it clear that Mikel Arteta's side will have to meet their asking price.

It's been claimed by ChronicleLive the Gunners are not prepared to bid £80m for the midfielder's services. Whether Arsenal end up budging remains to be seen, but Howe is simply eager to have Bruno 'back in the building' ahead of a demanding pre-season schedule next week.

Bruno had reflected on 2025/26 back in May, admitting it was a disappointing campaign last season. He said "A very frustrating season, and without a doubt we are all very disappointed.

"You fans definitely did not deserve this. But football doesn't always go the way we plan. Individually, I managed to have the season with the most goal contributions in my career. But I would trade all of that for a better position in the table. Honestly, I just want to thank the fans for everything. Thank you."

On Saturday, following the 1-1 stalemate with Gateshead, Howe fielded numerous enquiries regarding his captain and the likelihood of his return to training.

Howe said: "I have spoken to him normally as I would do. Bruno is a fantastic person and we had some really good conversations before and during the World Cup and after the World Cup. What we speak about has to remain private. He is a great player and a great person."

Howe then said: "Look I don't know what is going to happen with Bruno's future, that is for other people to speculate about. But [they are] also conversations that I'm not part of."

The future of Bruno now rests with sporting director Ross Wilson and chief executive David Hopkinson, who are working to ensure his seamless reintegration to the club's KNOX training facility before the squad departs for La Manga.
