McConchie had travelled to India as a reserve before being approved by the Event Technical Committee. The Canterbury Kings T20 captain has played 133 T20 matches in his 14-year career, including 12 internationals. The 34-year-old said he was thrilled to get the call-up. “It’s pretty surreal to be here,” said McConchie. “It doesn’t get much better than a World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. “You’re always striving to wear the fern, and to get the call up is incredibly special. “I’m looking forward to contributing in any way I can." New Zealand have had mixed results so far in the tournament. They opened with a dominant 10-wicket win over the United Arab Emirates. In their second match, New Zealand were beaten by South Africa by seven wickets. The BlackCaps then bounced back with a win over Afghanistan, defending their total with a strong bowling performance to secure their second victory of the group stage.
