Fabrizio Romano shares ‘difficult’ update on Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United, ‘They’re trying to…’

Manchester United have been in talks to sign Bryan Mbeumo for the majority of the transfer window so far.

After announcing the deal to sign Matheus Cunha earlier this month, there was a hope that Manchester United were going to move swiftly in the transfer market.

This might still be the case, with the real window only being open since Monday, but to ensure there is no repeat of long-running transfer sagas, Ineos will want to wrap up the Bryan Mbeumo deal quickly.

United’s first bid for Mbeumo was worth an initial £45m, potentially rising to £55m through add-ons. This was rejected by Brentford, unsurprisingly; however, a second bid is yet to be submitted.

Despite concerns around Tottenham making an approach, it has been claimed that Spurs’ interest in Mbeumo has cooled, due to United being his clear and obvious preference.

It has been suggested that Andre Onana played a role in convincing Mbeumo, with the pair being international teammates with Cameroon. However, the silence around a deal has in many ways been deafening.

Fabrizio Romano explains delays in Bryan Mbeumo deal

Despite a deal considered to be close for weeks, there is still little indication that United will complete the transfer in the coming days, but that could all change in an instant.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on the deal while speaking with Give Me Sport, explaining the reason things are slowly progressing, with Brentford labelled ‘difficult’ to deal with.

“For sure, there is appreciation from Thomas Frank, so it is normal to discuss Mbeumo at Tottenham because it is a name they discussed internally as soon as he signed his contract, so it’s obviously a football decision.

“But, my understanding is Man United remain in control of the situation, they remain in conversation with Brentford, club to club talking on almost a daily basis, they’re trying to find a solution, we know with these clubs like Brentford and Brighton, it is always difficult to negotiate for their top players. So it is not easy to reach an agreement, but Man United are on that.

“Talking to the club and always in contact with player agents and with an agreement with Bryan Mbeumo because he wants to join United, so they remain frontrunners.”

Brentford identify Bryan Mbeumo replacement in Manchester United boost

It is likely two or three weeks until United players are expected back at Carrington for pre-season, by which stage the transfer must be completely wrapped up for Amorim.

Pre-season kicks off on the 19th of July against Leeds United in Sweden, before the schedule ramps up before the Premier League kick-off for United on the 17th of August.

Well, United have been handed a boost in the Mbeumo chase, with FourFourTwo revealing that Brentford have identified their replacement for Mbeumo in Cheikh Sabaly.

The Metz winger is an exciting 26-year-old who scored 15 Ligue 2 goals in France last season to lead his club to promotion. This deal has Brentford written all over it.
