Julian Alvarez is expected to leave Atletico Madrid this summer and Arsenal are one of the frontrunners to secure his signature after winning the Premier League title

Arsenal have reportedly struck a deal with Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez. However, the report from Spain claims that the deal involves Viktor Gyokeres moving to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium.

Alvarez has scored 49 goals in 106 games for Atleti but he is expected to leave this summer and a queue of clubs interested in signing him has formed, with Real Madrid having already seen a £130m offer rejected. But according to El Chiringuito, the Gunners have agreed a deal for the Argentina international that will see them pay £43m with Gyokeres also moving in the opposite direction.

Gyokeres joined the Gunners last summer for a fee of £55m from Sporting CP and despite some early struggles, ended up scoring 21 goals in 55 appearances in all competitions.

The goals helped Arsenal end a 22-year wait to become league champions and also earned a place in the Champions League final.

Alvarez has already experienced the Premier League having scored 36 goals across his two seasons at Manchester City and also helped Pep Guardiola’s side win two Premier League titles and the Champions League. And he has continued to impress at Atletico, scoring 49 goals in the past two seasons.

And Gunners icon Paul Merson recently urged his old club to make a forward this summer. Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, he said: “I would get a centre forward this summer, I would go for Julian Alvarez.

“I’m a big fan. If they could get him I would. I still think they probably need another midfield player as well.”

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali is another who has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, but he is reportedly open to joining Tottenham Hotspur. The Italy international has emerged as a top target for Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi as he looks to rebuild his squad after helping the club avoid relegation from the Premier League.

And according to Fabrizo Romano, Tonali is keen on a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer. However, it also being reported that Newcastle would only consider selling Tonali, who has a contract until 2029, for a huge fee.

Speaking back in April, Tonali played down talk that he will quit Newcastle this summer - insisting he is only focused on success with the Magpies. He said: “In football if you play well you have to deal with the transfer rumours, but if you concentrate 100% on your game, and you’re happy, you don’t have to think about anything or speak about anything."
