Galway area shaken over double incident just hours apart as gardai investigating

Gardaí in Co Galway are investigation two similar incidents just hours and less than one kilometre apart.

The first of two criminal damage incidents occurred in Gort at around 10am on Sunday the 19 October at the Ard Ghuaire estate, Gort where a vehicle was extensively damaged.

Gardaí in Gort Garda Station are looking to speak to anyone who may have been in the area around this time and who may have witnessed any suspicious activity to contact Gort Garda Station on 091-636400 Or the Garda confidential line on 1800666111.

Gardaí in Gort are investigating a criminal damage incident that occurred between 1am and 10:44am on Sunday the 19th of October at the Dun Na Ri estate, Gort where an upstairs window of a house was damaged overnight.

Gardaí in Gort Garda Station are looking to speak to anyone who may have been in the area around this time and who may have witnessed any suspicious activity to contact Gort Garda Station on 091-636400 Or the Garda confidential line on 1800666111.

Gardaí in Co Galway are also warning of massive traffic measures ahead of two major sporting events, the final match of Galway United's season and the Galway Senior Football Championship.

Galway United play their last home game of the season at Eamon Deacy Park this Friday evening the 24th October at 7:45pm.

Those attending the match are reminded that there will be traffic restrictions in place for approximately 45 minutes before and after kick off, these restrictions will include Dyke Road being closed to all vehicles to allow for the safety of pedestrians attending the match.

Gardai would ask that those attending the match to arrive early and use the designated car parks and to park legally so as not to interfere with local resident’s ability to get in and out of their properties.

The Senior Football County Final takes place this Saturday evening the 25th October at 7:45pm in Pearse Stadium, Salthill between Salthill Knocknacarra and Moycullen.

A large crowd is anticipated and Gardaí would ask those attending the match to arrive early and to use the designated car parks and to park legally so as not to interfere with local resident’s ability to get in and out of their properties and for all motorists to drive with caution as there will be large volumes of pedestrians in the area.

Gardai would like to remind people that the Macnas parade 2025 is taking place this coming Sunday the 26th October in Galway City Centre.

Start Time: 5.30pm

Finish Time: 7.30pm

The Macnas parade route begins at the University of Galway and will turn left onto University Road, over the Salmon Weir Bridge, towards Galway Courthouse, and will turn right onto Francis Street and proceeding along Eglinton Street.

It will then turn right onto William Street, travel down Shop Street, Mainguard Street and over O’Brien’s Bridge. The parade will then turn left down Dominick Street Lower and onto Fairhill Road Lower before turning right onto Fr Griffin Road and finishing at GTI.

An exceptionally large crowd is anticipated to attend this event. Gardai would urge all those intending to attend to arrive into Galway as early as possible as there will be traffic restriction’s in place before and after this event so as to ensure the safety of all persons attending this much anticipated event.
