Casper Ruud claimed the first ATP Masters 1000 title of his career in the final of the 2025 Madrid Open on Sunday (4 May).

The 26-year-old tennis star battled through three sets against world number six Jack Draper, coming out on top 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in two and a half hours.

After defeats in the 2022 Miami Open and last year's Monte-Carlo Masters, it was third time lucky for Ruud as he became the first Norwegian to win a Masters 1000 title. He returns to the world's top 10, rising to number seven, when the latest rankings are released on Monday.

The Estadio Manolo Santana was an ideal setting for the first meeting between Ruud and Indian Wells Open hero Draper, each chasing a first Masters 1000 title on clay. Neither man had dropped a set on the path to the Madrid final.

After a solid start from Ruud, a double fault in the third game handed the Briton an early break and a chance to settle down. Draper's winners to close out rallies gave him a strong grasp on the final, playing with total freedom and flair early on.
