Man Utd fans give clear verdict on Erik ten Hag sack ahead of Sir Jim Ratcliffe crisis talks

Erik ten Hag may be battling to save his job at Manchester United when his side take on Aston Villa in the Premier League after a series of disappointing results to start the season

A majority of Manchester United fans would like to see manager Erik ten Hag sacked by the club following a poor start to the season.

The Red Devils let a two-goal lead slip before narrowly avoiding defeat against Porto in the Europa League to continue an indifferent start to 2024-25. United have not won either of their opening European matches so far and sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table having recorded just two wins.

Four months on from extending his contract at Old Trafford, Ten Hag is under intense pressure and has been said to have until the international break to prove he can continue in his position. It appears in the eyes of many supporters, the club should not wait.

In a Mirror Football poll of readers, 67 per cent believed that the Dutchman should be sacked by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co. A further 14 per cent believed that Ten Hag was not the correct figure to lead the club, but he should be maintained until the opportunity to land a better manager arises.

A mere 19 per cent believe that United's manager should not he given his marching orders. It will soon be discovered whether the club's hierarchy is in agreement.

Speculation over Ten Hag's future is likely to intensify with co-owner Ratcliffe flying in to attend United's clash against Aston Villa. The former Ajax boss will face a difficult task as he leads his side to Villa Park after Unai Emery's team defeated Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Ratcliffe will have the final decison on whether to sack Ten Hag with any decision to be made alongside Sir Dave Brailsford and Joel Glazer. The United trio would take recommendations from chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth.

Speaking in his press conference before Porto, Ten Hag said he was in regular contact with Ashworth. "We talk everyday. We are a union and we made that commitment in the summer," he said.

“We refreshed the staff and I appointed my assistants, I appointed the staff. I did this. We refreshed the squad as well."

The Dutchman added: "It's not necessary to give me confidence. We talk every day about how we can improve this club, this team, improve the processes, the procedures, the connections. That is what we talk about."
