Marmoush talks 'progressing positively'

Sami Mokbel

BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

Having spent a combined £185m on midfielders Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, Tottenham head coach Roberto de Zerbi has been looking to strengthen his side's attack.

Sources are telling us that talks for Savinho's Manchester City team-mate Omar Marmoush are progressing positively.

The Egypt forward, a £59m signing from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2025, fell down the pecking order at City last season.

Spurs also remain interested in Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, but it is unclear whether they could finance a deal for the Netherlands attacker as well as moves for Marmoush and Savinho.

So plenty of action already in the transfer market after what was a pretty busy Thursday.

Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa had a medical at Arsenal yesterday ahead of his planned £50m-plus move, while Inter Milan agreed a £30m deal for Liverpool's England midfielder Curtis Jones and Tijjani Reijnders completed a £52m move from Manchester City to Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah.

Aston Villa have had a bid worth around £18m plus add-ons rejected by Southampton for defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

Villa are looking for new recruits with England defender Ezri Konsa set to join Arsenal for more than £50m.

Harwood-Bellis has been at Southampton since 2023, initially on loan, and has one England cap – earned in a 2024 Nations League match against Republic of Ireland.

Southampton, who finished fourth in the Championship last season before the Spygate scandal ended their play-offs, are understood to want around £25m for him.

Liverpool have £50m bid rejected for Brighton's Minteh

Aadam Patel

BBC Sport reporter

Elsewhere, Liverpool have had a £50m bid rejected by Brighton for their winger Yankuba Minteh.

The 22-year-old Gambia international has scored 10 goals and provided nine assists in 73 appearances for the Seagulls.

Minteh, who joined Brighton from Newcastle for £30m in 2024, plays primarily on the right wing and is currently recovering from a leg injury sustained in a friendly against Roma earlier this month.

The priority for Reds boss Andoni Iraola for the remainder of the transfer window is to strengthen his wide attacking options after the departure of Mohamed Salah, and Liverpool will continue to look at a number of possibilities to test the market.

Spurs agree £75m deal to sign Man City's Savinho

Sami Mokbel

BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

Tottenham have agreed a deal with Manchester City to sign winger Savinho for £75m, with a further £10m in potential add-ons.

Savinho, 22, will now have a medical before signing a long-term deal with Spurs.

The Brazilian's move to north London has been more than 12 months in the making, with Spurs failing in a bid to sign him last summer.

Savinho opted to remain at Etihad Stadium, but his game time was limited under Pep Guardiola last term when he made just seven Premier League starts.
