Newcastle set price for Man Utd to sign Lewis Hall on transfer deadline day

Manchester United are still eyeing a deadline-day move for Lewis Hall despite Newcastle United’s determination to keep hold of the defender.

Old Trafford bosses are huge admirers of Hall, 21, and have been linked with a move for the England international all summer.

Hall has developed into one of the best left-backs in the Premier League since his £35m move from Chelsea in 2023 and was unfortunate not to be selected in England’s World Cup squad.

The full-back reportedly blamed Eddie Howe on his exclusion from Thomas Tuchel’s squad and as a result pushed to leave Newcastle earlier n the summer.

Hall was believed to be keen on a move to Manchester United, who wanted to bolster Michael Carrick’s left-back options due to concerns over Luke Shaw.

Shaw enjoyed one of his best-ever campaigns last season, featuring in all 38 of United’s Premier League games, but there are concerns over his form and fitness ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League.

A deal for Hall appeared to be off the table with Newcastle ‘determined’ not to sell, but the Daily Mail say Manchester United have indicated they are still interested in a transfer.

It is also claimed that while Newcastle want to keep Hall after selling Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon, they would ‘consider’ offers of more than £75m.

However, the likely outcome is that Manchester United will be forced to ‘postpone’ any bid for Hall, just as they did for Carlos Baleba 12 months ago before signing him last month.

Paul Scholes has urged his former club to revive their interest in Hall after Shaw ‘got done’ in Sunday’s win over Ipswich Town.

‘I think United would have taken going 1-0 down, the way they played in the first half. It could have been two or three,’ Scholes said of United’s performance on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.

‘What we saw yesterday, I think that sums what you’re going to get from United.

‘They could have been two or three down but also, you look at the second half, and they were devastating. They are absolutely devastating going forward.’

Asked if Carrick will be asking for reinforcements at the back, Scholes replied: ‘100 per cent. That will have been going on for months, you’re not just talking the last couple of days.

‘Do you know one thing that might help Michael? Luke Shaw getting done yesterday [against Ipswich] like he did.

‘So he might go, “Look, we need him”, and you think Lewis Hall might be the most doable who is out there and available.

‘You would have thought some work on that has been done. The amount of rumours there have been, you would have thought some work on that has been done.

‘It doesn’t feel like they’re going to do anything does it? Lewis Hall was floated about for a bit.

‘I don’t think it’s going to happen and this is why United are going to be United again: we’re probably not much different from last year and not much different from the last five years.

‘They can look devastating at times but at times they’ll look like they did in the first half [against Ipswich] where they concede goals.

‘Look, it’s no surprise, who is shocked? You’ve got the same back-four you’ve had for five years. What’s going to change?’
