Lukas Nmecha shares what Josuha Guilavogui told him about Leeds United and Elland Road

Leeds United have completed their first signing of the summer after announcing the arrival of Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer, with his contract at Wolfsburg set to expire.

Nmecha, 26, arrives at Elland Road after his four-year stint with German side Wolfsburg came to an end. The Germany international’s contract expires in a fortnight and Leeds have struck a pre-contract deal.

It means that come July 1, Nmecha will automatically transfer to Leeds. Daniel Farke will now have four strikers available to him, with Joel Piroe, Mateo Joseph and Patrick Bamford still at the club at this point.

But it is likely to mean there will be movement in terms of their future. Joseph continues to be linked with Real Betis and Bamford is in the final year of his contract. Nmecha has been speaking to Leeds’ media.

Agent Guilavogui helps convince Nmecha of Leeds United move

Guilavogui and Nmecha shared a pitch 37 times during the duo’s time together at Wolfsburg. The striker – who came through Man City’s academy – played 85 times in total for Wolfsburg and scored 19 goals.

Guilavogui responded to Nmecha’s signing on Instagram, welcoming Nmecha to Leeds despite leaving the club himself. The striker says he spoke to Guilavogui about a move to Leeds, urging him to sign on.

“I trust Josh. He’s probably one of the nicest guys in football, that I know. He said that it’s a massive club and I should definitely do it if I get the opportunity. He said the fans are crazy and the boys are good.”

What Pep Guardiola and Vincent Kompany said about Nmecha

Guardiola handed Nmecha his Premier League and Carabao Cup debuts while at Man City, before letting the striker leave the club to join Wolfsburg permanently. Nmecha left City four times to go on loan, too.

He was at City alongside Vincent Kompany, too. The last of his four loans away from City was under the Belgian manager at Anderlecht and after 21 goals in 41 games, convinced Wolfsburg to sign Nmecha.

Guardiola once said: “Lukas has great prospects,” and while he has shown glimpses over the years, he probably hasn’t reached the heights predicted of him. Kompany said he is a “complete striker” in 2021.
