Shreyas Iyer's form

Shreyas Iyer kicked off the ongoing England series with a brilliant knock of 59 off just 36 balls as India chased down the target of 249 in just 38.4 overs. Iyer, who has been India's regular number 4 batsman since 2019, made a shocking reveal after the game and said that he wasn't supposed to play the series opener.

Iyer only got a chance to play after an injury to Virat Kohli. Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings with Rohit Sharma while Shubman Gill batted at number 3.

Shubman and Rohit opened the innings in the next 2 ODIs while a fit-again Virat regained his number 3 spot. Yashasvi was dropped from the playing XI and then from the 2025 Champions Trophy team.

Iyer scored 44 in the chase to the target of 305 in the second game. He hit another half-century in the third ODI. Iyer will have a crucial role to play in the Champions Trophy, scheduled to be played from February 19 to March 9.
