Alex Eala pulls out of Cincinnati Open due to shoulder injury

MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open as she recovers from a shoulder injury.

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) website reported that Eala won’t see action in Cincinnati, following her first-round exit in the National Bank Open in Montreal.

The 20-year-old Eala fell to Czechia’s Marketa Vondrousova in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 2-6, on Monday.

Despite a another first-round exit, following her Wimbledon debut, the Filipino tennis sensation relished seeing action in Montreal.

“Pretty in pink. Montreal was a short but sweet trip. I had so much fun out on court! Time to rest and recover,” wrote Eala on Instagram.

Eala recently improved from World No.65 to 69 after her recent tournament.

The Rafa Nadal Academy product is bracing for the US Open in New York in August.

Eala will be missing the final WTA 1000 event, headlined by World Top 2 Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff, before the last Grand Slam this year.

She said during her homecoming that she plans to play in Asia after the US Open.
