England had named Lancashire cricketers Charlie Bernard, Kesh Fonseka, and Harry Singh as their substitute fielders for the first Test of the three-match home series against Sri Lanka. Of the three, Harry took field in the first session of the Test match.

Extremely proud of our very own Harry Singh, who is representing @englandcricket in their test match vs @OfficialSLC as 12th man.

Only 20, Harry Singh is yet to play first-class or T20 cricket, but has played seven List A matches for Lancashire, all of them in this summer’s One-Day Cup. His career as a professional cricketer is yet to take off: he has made 87 runs, while his off-breaks have fetched a couple of wickets.

Before that, he played in four Under-19 “Tests” for England, twice against each of Sri Lanka (at home in 2022) and Australia (away, in 2022/23). From eight innings, he has 249 runs at 31.12 including 104 at Derby and 67 at Brisbane. He did not bowl at that level. In 2023, he signed his first rookie contract, with Lancashire.

Harry Singh’s father Rudra Pratap Singh opened bowling for India in two ODIs against Australia in 1986, alongside Kapil Dev, a man he shares birthday with. After going wicketless in the first match, he dismissed Dean Jones in the second. He played 59 ODIs and 21 T20Is, mostly for Uttar Pradesh.

Interestingly, another Rudra Pratap Singh, also from Uttar Pradesh, opened bowling for India as well in the 21st century. He played 14 Tests, 58 ODIs, and 10 T20Is, and was part of the squad that won the 2007 T20 World Cup. Both were known by their initials, RP.

Harry Singh’s sister Anjalie as also played List A cricket for Cumbria and T20 for Lancashire.
