Sporting Lagos thrash Osun United 3

Sporting Lagos began life again in the 2025/26 Nigeria National League on Saturday, beating visiting Osun United 3-1 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Now under the guidance of former academy coach Jeffery Buter, the former campaigners in the Nigeria Premier Football League didn’t leave anything to chance in their first game of the season, scoring two in the first half before adding another in the second forty-five minutes.

Their fans were also back in the stands, noisy as ever, and life under Buter began tenderly.

They were sent into frenzy with the first goal of the season inside five minutes, courtesy of Jacob Aondana, who capitalised on a sloppy defending by the visitors.

Kelvin Unenge doubled the lead with a deft finish off a beautiful exchange.

Four minutes later, the visitors pulled one back from a beautiful free kick by new boy Tomiwa Awojobi, giving the visitors, who also began a new dispensation under coach Akinade Onigbinde, a lifeline into the break.

There was no coming back for Osun United in the second half as Victor Samuel added the third for Sporting Lagos in the 63rd minute, beating an onrushing Semiu Bello in goal for the visitors after being fed with a through ball.

It was game, set, match for Sporting Lagos as quickly as possible, and they will turn their attention to their next game – an away game against First Bank – at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena next Saturday.
