PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Dubai for the ICC meet amid Asia Cup trophy controversy with BCCI.

Amid doubts looming over his participation in the ICC’s Executive Board Meeting, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Dubai on Thursday. Earlier, it was learned that he might give it a miss due to ‘domestic political issues’ and will be replaced by PCB CEO Sumair Syed. However, as reported by the Times of India, Naqvi reached Dubai right before the commencement of the meet, at 3:00 PM IST.

While the official ICC agenda focuses on administrative and financial matters, the Asia Cup trophy controversy — a lingering issue between India and Pakistan — could likely surface during the meeting. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to raise the matter, potentially sparking a tense exchange between the two cricketing boards.

“Ten days ago, we wrote to the ACC Chairperson, requesting that he hand over the trophy to the BCCI at the earliest. However, to this day, we have not received the trophy. We are waiting for another day. If we do not get the trophy by 3 November, a meeting will be held at the ICC headquarters in Dubai. We will raise our grievance before the apex body of international cricket," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had told news agency ANI.

The aftermath of India’s five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup final in Dubai took an unexpected turn when the Indian players refused to accept their trophy and medals from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief and ACC president Mohsin Naqvi, known for his anti-India remarks.

After India’s five-wicket win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup final, players refused to accept the trophy from Pakistan’s Interior Minister and ACC president Mohsin Naqvi. Naqvi, however, refused to step aside, leading to a tense standoff between both sides.

In an unprecedented move, Naqvi walked off the stage along with ACC officials, carrying the trophy with him before the presentation could conclude. In response, the Indian players took the incident in their stride, celebrating lightheartedly by posing with imaginary trophies, medals, and even coffee cups during their on-field victory photos.

Reports suggest the Asia Cup trophy remains locked inside the ACC headquarters near the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, with staff reportedly instructed not to release it without Naqvi’s authorisation.
