Arsenal to sign ‘Martinelli upgrade’ amid Tottenham transfer shock – Exclusive

Arsenal could now be set to capitalise on a transfer development on the other side of North London as surprise Tottenham news emerges.

There have already been several shocking developments at Tottenham this summer.

Many were surprised to see Ange Postecoglou sacked after the Australian guided the Lilywhites to the UEFA Europa League, while the announcement that Donna-Maria Cullen would be stepping down caught several people off guard.

There have been some transfer twists too, with Johnny Cardoso snubbing a move to Tottenham to join Atletico Madrid instead, as more surprise news now emerges.

Tottenham cool Eberechi Eze interest

Eberechi Eze became hot property when he netted the winner for Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final, and the 26-year-old has been linked with Tottenham and Arsenal.

But it seems that Spurs have cooled their interest, with fans on the other side of North London now convinced that Eze is headed to the Emirates.

As reported by Ben Jacobs via talkSPORT (27 June), in a surprise twist, Tottenham have now backed off from signing Eze, who has a £68million release clause in his contract.

This is wonderful news for Arsenal, who Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes have found their Gabriel Martinelli upgrade.

“Eze is a very talented player,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, I’m sure Arsenal probably are interested in signing him, as Manchester City are too. These good players are quite hard to come by.

“When you’ve got someone like Eze, who has as much experience as he has, and is now an FA Cup winner, it doesn’t surprise me that Arsenal want to sign him. He would be a massive upgrade on Martinelli as well. There’s always going to be competition for these players.

“If Tottenham want Eze, they need to move swiftly. They know what the release clause is, so start having those conversations and get this wrapped up.”

Tottenham could now sign Xavi Simons

As well as Eze, Tottenham are also interested in Xavi Simons. As both players operate in similar areas of the pitch, it would have been unlikely for Spurs to spend big money on both this summer.

Therefore, the recent update on Eze could indicate that Tottenham have made their choice. Indeed, at 22 years old, Simons is one of the most talented young players in football.

Therefore, it would not come as a surprise if Spurs were to accelerate their pursuit of the Dutchman.
