Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd in race to sign English centre-back

Since the arrival of BlueCo, Chelsea have consistently focused on signing youngsters from all across the globe. This has come at the cost of the club overlooking the need for experience and proven quality. At times, it has felt like an attempt to transform the game. If so, until now, it has been failing. Despite spending record sums of money, the Blues are not even contenders in England, four years into the Clearlake-Boehly project.

Yet, it looks like BlueCo are determined to continue on this same path and have no intention of tweaking their model. The latest speculation surrounding the club’s future transfer activity hints at that clearly.

Most Chelsea fans would like to see the club bring in an experienced centre-back in the summer. Someone like Alessandro Bastoni or Marcos Senesi.

But on the other hand, it appears the Chelsea continue to search for the ‘next big thing’. The latest name on their transfer list is someone who has not even played a senior game yet.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United in race to sign Fulham centre-back

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are poised to compete to sign Samuel Amissah from Fulham. Outside of the Premier League, clubs like Ajax, Juventus and Marseille are also watching the England Under-19 centre-back.

Amissah is out of contract at the end of the season. That means that the 19-year-old can move to a Premier League side in the summer, with a tribunal setting a fee. Or he could also move to a club abroad for a smaller compensation fee.

Amissah drawing interest from top clubs despite not even making debut

Amissah has not even made his senior debut yet. But he has been named on the bench seven times so far this season.

Also, considering the level of teams showing interest in the centre-back, it is very clear that he has impressed while coming up through the ranks. Of course, it is not just Chelsea who are constantly looking for the next big thing in football these days.

As transfer fees and salaries have continued to climb, most top clubs have now adopted a similar approach. Of course, very few have gone all in like Chelsea, instead opting for a balance between youth and experience.

Amissha looks set to be involved in a high-profile move this summer. Will he end up at Stamford Bridge? We can only wait and watch.
