Jamie Carragher reveals new Arne Slot Liverpool theory after telling Mikel Arteta reaction

Liverpool are currently 11 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League

Jamie Carragher believes there are only two people in the entire country who are yet to accept that Liverpool are Premier League champions in waiting - Arne Slot and Mikel Arteta. The Reds are on course to seal a second title success in five years as they sit 11 points clear of second-place Arsenal heading into the final seven games of the Premier League season.

But last weekend Slot's side suffered just a second defeat of the Premier League campaign as goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Alex Iwobi and Rodrigo Muniz cancelled out Alexis Mac Allister's early stunner to seal a 3-2 come-from-behind win for Fulham at Craven Cottage. That defeat in West London came roughly 24 hours after Arteta was left disgruntled at his side's failure to pick up all three points against Everton at Goodison Park.

Leandro Trossard's first-half goal had the Gunners ahead on their final visit to Goodison Park and on course to cut the gap to Liverpool to just nine points, though that was before Iliman Ndiaye's penalty restored parity four minutes into the second half. And Carragher believes the nature of Arteta's disappointment was evidence that he is refusing to rule Arsenal out of the Premier League title race.

Analysing the situation on Monday Night Football, Carragher said: "We know managers get really irate on the back of defeats and understandably so - they're emotional.

"I was really surprised at how angry Mikel Arteta was [at drawing with Everton] because they're 12 points behind and have got a big game mid-week.

"You know what that told me? I'm convinced that everyone in this country thinks Liverpool have won the title, besides Arteta and Arsenal, and Arne Slot and Liverpool.

"Liverpool will be thinking about complacency; don't throw it away. I'm convinced Arteta will be telling them, 'If we win every game, we can win this league'.

"He will have to try and keep give them some belief to keep on winning games. I think how angry he was, he probably felt that Liverpool would drop points in the game against Fulham. Arsenal have got to play Liverpool as well.

"I was sort of taken aback by how angry he was actually and it just made me think he is probably still trying to instil that belief in the squad.

"Even though everyone is saying it's over, you've got to keep your players going somehow, haven't you?"
