‘I’m pretty sure’: Lions comment on Daniher comeback bombshell amid links to rival club

Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan has put to bed the rumours surrounding a potential Joe Daniher comeback to AFL footy.

The star key forward retired at the end of last year, calling it quits on an illustrious AFL career after tasting success with the Lions by winning the 2024 premiership.

Fagan said he would be “very surprised” though if Daniher ever returned to the top level, despite the rumours that have been doing the rounds in the football world in recent weeks.

Those reports linked Daniher to Sydney, but Fagan is adamant that that will not come to fruition.

“I’m pretty sure that that will never happen,” Fagan said.

“I’m nearly 100 per cent sure, 99.99 per cent sure.

“I think Joe is enjoying life at the moment, and the other thing I’d be confident with is if he did, he would play with us.”

Fagan said he had been in contact with his former star forward in recent times, texting back in forth while Daniher was enjoying a trip in Europe.

“I don’t think he’d be in great nick right now,” he said.

“I’d be very, very surprised if Joey ever plays footy again.”

Daniher won six club goalkicking awards throughout his career and was named All-Australian and Essendon’s best and fairest in 2017.

The Lions take on Port Adelaide on Saturday night as they look to continue to press their claims for a top four place on the AFL ladder.
