Baartman ruled out of Australia ODIs with hamstring injury

South Africa seamer Ottneil Baartman has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Australia due to injury.

A statement from Cricket South Africa on Sunday (September 13) revealed that Baartman has suffered a left hamstring injury. Duan Jansen, who recently debuted in the Namibia T20I tri-series, has been named his replacement. He will join the squad on September 19, when they convene in Durban.

Baartman wasn’t part of South Africa’s ongoing ODI series against Namibia, their first one-day assignment since their India tour in November-December last year. Baartman was part of that tour and last played for the South Africa during the New Zealand T20Is in March. He played Major League Cricket in June & July and returned to competitive cricket with Dolphins’ season-opening fixture against Titans in the CSA 4-Day Series Division 1 this week.

However, he bowled just five overs in Titans’ only innings and did not return to bat in Dolphins’ second innings, after which CSA issued a statement on his injury.

Jansen made his ODI debut in the ongoing series in Namibia which followed the T20I tri-series, picking up 4-31 in the second one-dayer. With SA already 2-0 up in the three-match series, Jansen was one of three changes made by the visitors in the final fixture.

South Africa are already without Kagiso Rabada, who continues to recover from a hamstring injury. They recalled Gerald Coetzee, who hasn’t played ODIs since the 2023 World Cup, while Anrich Nortje was not considered. The rest of the pace attack includes Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi, Kwena Maphaka and Corbin Bosch.
