Indian players are facing heat after the team’s second consecutive Test series defeat. After going down to New Zealand by a margin of 0-3, Rohit Sharma’s team lost to Australia by 1-3. Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja are likely to dropped from the future assignments as the national selectors are miffed with the seniors. The next red-ball assignment is in England in June later this year.

Former English cricketer David Lloyd’ has reacted to the current situation. The cricketer-turned-commentator is sure that Virat Kohli has past his prime. He scored 414 runs at an average of 24 in Test cricket in 2024. Kohli”s place in the squad is not confirmed and Lloyd has given a suggestion to the chief selector Ajit Agarkar. He has urged the chairman of the selection committee to accept that Kohli’s time is over.

“Virat Kohli knows that his time is over and it will hurt him. If he comes to England, the hosts will keep the ball outside the off stump. He is one of the best batters we have seen but he is done and dusted. Gautam Gambhir will have a play a key role as he is a part of the dressing and he knows that Kohli’s career is over,” Lloyd told talkSport Cricket.

“His time is gone and he can’t solve his off-stump concern no matter what former players say and suggest. He can’t solve his problem despite trying his best. If you keep nicking to the wicket-keeper and the slip cordon, it is enough to confirm that reflexes and reaction time is gone.”

Lloyd mentioned that Kohli shouldn’t be batting at No. 4 if he is given a chance to play Test series against England.

“The selectors will have to find new players. It is time for India to look for a new Sachin, Dravid and Ganguly. They were also given chances during overseas matches and the three proved themselves,” he concluded.
