And men’s eighth seed Ben Shelton looks set to join her as he holds a commanding 6-2, 6-3, 2-1 lead over Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Serena and Venus Williams will not be fined for skipping their media duties on Saturday (AEST).

The superstar sisters lost to Australia’s Maya Joint and her partner Chan Hao-ching in the first round of the doubles in New York.

Alex Michelsen beat Tomas Martin Etcheverry 7-6 (6), 6-4, 6-4.

Michelsen and Tiafoe will meet in the quarter-finals, guaranteeing an American man in the semi-finals.

No US men’s player has won a Grand Slam since Andy Roddick in New York in 2003.

The American crowd favourite - dubbed ‘Big Foe’ - produced some stunning tennis in the third set tiebreak to complete a 7-6, 6-4, 7-6 win over seventh seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia.

He is now 10-0 on Louis Armstrong Stadium and will meet compatriot Alex Michelsen in the last-eight.

“What’s up Louis?!” he cries.

“It’s the people’s court. I’m loving the energy, for sure.”
