Sunderland 'excited' by youngster who has impressed Florent Ghisolfi & Regis Le Bris

FLORENT Ghisolfi says Sunderland are "excited" by the potential of Timur Tutierov after the young winger signed a new contract with the Black Cats.

The deal comes hot on the heels of Tutierov's impressive display in the 5-1 pre-season victory over York City on Saturday, with the 21-year-old scoring one and creating another of Sunderland's goals.

Tutierov scored six goals and provided one assist in seven Premier League 2 appearances for Sunderland's Under-21s at the start of last season before he got his first taste of senior football when he linked up with Exeter City on loan. The Ukrainian scored three times and got one assist in 17 League One outings.

Sunderland have offloaded a couple of young players this summer, with Zak Johnson and Harrison Jones leaving the Black Cats on permanent deals, and there was some uncertainty as to what the future held for Tutierov at the end of last season.

But Sunderland are understood to have been hugely impressed with the steps taken by Tutierov, who has clearly impressed Regis Le Bris and the coaching staff since the players reported back for the start of pre-season.

After his new deal was confirmed, Sunderland's director of football Ghisolfi said: "We're delighted that Timur has committed his future to Sunderland.

"This new contract is a reward for the progress he has made and the attitude he continues to show every day.

"He is humble, hardworking and eager to learn, and those qualities have been central to his development.

"Timur represents the type of young player we want to develop at this football club. We're committed to giving talented young players the opportunity to succeed when they're ready, and we're excited to see the next stage of his journey in red and white."

Another loan move will likely be on the cards this coming season for Tutierov, who joined Sunderland from Ukrainian outfit Kolos Kovalivka in April, 2023, though the Black Cats will wait until their squad building is complete before making any final decisions.

There'll be no shortage of interest in Tutierov if Sunderland sanction another temporary switch.
