Hrimat: Morocco’s midfield warrior on a mission for continental glory

At Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam at the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN),PAMOJA 2024, Moroccan midfielder Mohamed Rabie Hrimat embodied more than just skill — he carried the weight of a nation.

In a bruising quarter-final clash against Tanzania on Friday, the FAR Rabat player’s tireless display in the heart of midfield reflected the determination of the Atlas Lions to push beyond obstacles, silence the home crowd, and keep their dream alive.

Hrimat, 31, insists that Morocco’s ambition is clear: not just victories, but the CHAN 2024 title.

Determined to Honor Moroccan Football

For Hrimat, football is not simply about winning matches; it is about national pride and legacy.

“Morocco is a football country and has developed a lot,” he said.

“We weren’t allowed to lose against Tanzania in front of their fans without qualifying. With our determination, we prevailed.

"We always strive to honor our flag, Moroccan football, the Moroccan league, and our country.

That spirit was on full display as Morocco held their nerve in a tense encounter, eventually securing a 1-0 win to book their place in the semi-finals.

Credit to the Group, Not the Individual

Although Hrimat’s leadership and energy stood out, he was quick to shift the spotlight to his teammates and technical staff.

“I would like to thank our entire team and the technical staff for their efforts throughout the match,” he said with a smile.

“This personal achievement is thanks to all the players. We worked hard, thank God. Our goal now is more than that — it is to win the TotalEnergies CHAN title. We will take the rest of our journey step by step.”

Praise for Coach Sektioui

Hrimat also highlighted the influence of Morocco’s coach, Tariq Sektioui, whose tactical insight and leadership have guided the team this far.

“When you have a great coach like Tariq Sektioui, and players with great potential like my teammates, you can’t leave the tournament with nothing,” he said.

A Midfield General with a Clear Goal

Known for his commanding presence, passing accuracy, and ability to dictate tempo, Hrimat described the mindset within Morocco’s camp.

“My conversation with the rest of the players always revolves around honoring our country, Morocco, and our people.

"I thank the players very much, especially my colleague Bash, who took on a different role during the Tanzania match. This is where we see the spirit of the group.”

Twice Crowned, Still Hungry

Hrimat has now been named TotalEnergies Man of the Match twice in the tournament, a recognition he attributes to teamwork rather than individual brilliance.

“Our players had determination and perseverance,” he said.

“We always play with the aim of bringing pride to Moroccan football. Being named Man of the Match is important, but the real prize is winning the trophy.”

For Hrimat and the Atlas Lions, the mission remains clear — to return home not just with memories, but with Morocco’s third continental CHAN title.
