Man Utd news: Erik ten Hag scoffs at Marcus Rashford suggestion as star accused

Marcus Rashford started on the bench during Manchester United's 0-0 draw away to Crystal Palace on Saturday, with the forward unable to make an impact as a second-half substitute

Manchester United scored 10 goals in two games before heading to Crystal Palace - where they couldn't even get one.

Erik ten Hag's side largely dominated at Selhurst Park but they were unable to break the deadlock. The result leaves United in the bottom half of the Premier League table, managing just two wins from their six games so far.

Ten Hag's decision to bench in-form Marcus Rashford was the biggest talking point ahead of the match, as he was dropped for Joshua Zirkzee. And when the Red Devils didn't get the win after wasting a series of chances, Rashford's omission only became more glaring.

Here's a round-up of the latest news from Old Trafford.

Ten Hag hits back at 'crazy' Rashford speculation

Erik ten Hag wasn't happy with former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp for 'crazily' suggesting that something 'untoward' was behind his decision to bench Marcus Rashford. On Sky Sports, Redknapp said: "It feels like something has gone untoward. I don't know the details. But you don't drop a player that has scored two in midweek and against Southampton.

"I'd be nervous to say he is back but he is showing signs of the Rashford from two years ago. It feels like something's happened maybe this week, I don't know the manager's frustration. It is unusual for a manager to out players for their lifestyle."

Martinez accused of 'fighting' opponent

Lisandro Martinez was accused of trying to 'fight' Crystal Palace forward Ismaila Sarr instead of tracking his run during Saturday's draw. After Martinez escaped a red card for a two-footed challenge of Palace's Daichi Kamada, the United defender lost Sarr and had to be bailed out by Andre Onana.

"I tell you who is lucky here, Martinez," Jamie Redknapp stated. "For some reason he is trying to get in a bit of a fight there. Sarr comes in, he follows it in and Martinez gets caught the wrong side. He is the one hesitating, he gets lucky his keeper bails him out."

Arsenal legend backs Ten Hag's Rashford decision

Patrick Vieira had no issue with Erik ten Hag's call to bench Marcus Rashford, backing the United manager amid criticism for his decision. Arsenal legend Vieira, appearing as a pundit on NBC Sports, instead pointed the finger at Rashford for not making himself undroppable.

"I think Rashford should ask himself why he doesn't start at Manchester United," Vieira claimed. "And I think he has to do more because the manager the fans, the club, they expect more from him. I think when you're looking at when he came on today, I thought he was disappointed. And I think that didn't help him."
