Bangladesh have included two uncapped players - Tanzid Hasan and Amite Hasan - in their 15-member squad for the opening Test against Pakistan, scheduled at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium from May 8.

Pace duo Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam return to the Test fold for the first time since November-December 2024 while off Spinner Naeem Hasan is also back nearly a year after playing his last Test.

Opener Tanzid Hasan, who has already established himself in the national team in white ball cricket, has earned a first call up to the Test side. The 25-year-old left-hander has an impressive first class record with 1792 runs in 25 matches at an average of 40.

"Tanzid has been in our thoughts for Test cricket. He has a very good first-class record and we felt he deserved the opportunity to showcase his ability in Tests. He has a sound technique and plenty of natural ability. We are confident that if he gets the chance, he can perform well in the longer format," said Habibul Bashar, chairman of the national selection panel, regarding the inclusion of Tanzid.

Habibul added that he is also impressed with prolific 23-year-old right-handed middle order batsman Amite Hasan, who averages 49 in first class cricket having played 82 matches since making his debut in 2019.

"Amite has earned his call-up as he has been one of the most consistent batters in our first-class cricket. His temperament stands out and we believe it is well suited for Test cricket. This format demands patience and discipline, and he has shown those qualities over a sustained period," added Habibul.

"Both these players have time on their side and can serve Bangladesh for a very long period," he added.
