MANILA, Philippines — Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala has climbed to No. 30 in the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings released Monday, marking a five-spot jump from her previous No. 35 standing.

Eala has now officially secured the position — just one step away from matching her career-high ranking of No. 29, which she set in March. With another strong showing at the Bad Homburg Open in Germany, the 21-year-old could soon reach a new career-best mark.

The Filipina star is coming off an impressive campaign at the Berlin Open, where she powered her way to the semifinals. Along the way, she stunned top-tier opponents, including Queen’s Club champion Donna Vekic in the first round, world No. 2 Elena Rybakina in the second round, and world No. 8 Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals.

Her remarkable run ended in the semifinals against eventual champion Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic.

Eala now turns her focus to the Bad Homburg Open, where she is set to face Belgium’s Elise Mertens in the opening round on Monday night (Manila time).

She will also compete in the doubles event, teaming up with Grand Slam champion Venus Williams—adding even more excitement to her rising momentum on the global stage.
