Vaibhav Sooryavanshi unlocked a huge feat in IPL 2026 and became the youngest cricketer to win the Orange Cap in the popular T20 competition. Sooryavanshi enjoyed a stellar season that saw him amass 776 runs from 16 matches at an average of 48.50 and a strike-rate of 237.30. His campaign included one century and six half-centuries.

If we talk about Sooryavanshi's age, he is 15 years and 65 days old. Sai Sudharsan held the previous record, which he had achieved last season at 23 years and 231 days. Sudharsan had then amassed 759 runs from 15 innings.

Sudharsan had a chance to prevent Sooryavanshi from breaking his record but failed to do so. He was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 12 off the same number of balls in the finals between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans. Sudharsan ended the campaign with 722 runs from 17 innings, featuring one century and eight half-centuries.

Gujarat captain Shubman Gill finished second in the list of highest run-scorers this season, amassing 732 runs from 16 innings. He smashed one century and six half-centuries.

Meanwhile, the century tally could have been higher had Sooryavanshi not been dismissed in the 90s thrice during the campaign. He scored 93 against Lucknow Super Giants, 97 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, and 96 against Gujarat Titans.

Meanwhile, the teenager struck 72 sixes in total during the campaign, which is the highest by any batter in a single edition of IPL. He overtook Chris Gayle to shatter the latter's 14-year-old record, which was 59 sixes in the 2012 season. This was just another of the major records Sooryavanshi scripted during the season.

Sooryavanshi had arrived in Ahmedabad ahead of the final on Sunday.

Rajasthan Royals, the franchise Sooryavanshi plays for, on the other hand, finished fourth in the league stage. Their campaign eventually ended after suffering a crushing 7-wicket loss against Gujarat in the Eliminator.
