Alessandro Costacurta responds to Rasmus Hojlund to AC Milan rumours, he's not convinced about Man Utd striker

Rasmus Hojlund has an opportunity to sign for AC Milan, and he is not the only one who has doubts.

Manchester United’s move for Benjamin Sesko is set to push Rasmus Hojlund out the exit door.

In a season where Manchester United require a smaller squad due to a lack of European football, and need to sell players to fund additions in further areas, the Dane is now surplus to requirements.

Even before Saturday’s friendly game where Hojlund was an unused substitute for the second game in a row, speculation was building over his future.

AC Milan are keen on a loan move, Di Marzio reported that the striker was yet to be convinced amid his stated desire to stay at United.

Alessandro Costacurta on Rasmus Hojlund

Rasmus Hojlund is only 22 and impressed previously in Serie A with Atalanta, which prompted Manchester United to gamble on his potential.

After finishing in 8th place in Serie A in 2024/25, AC Milan are looking to improve and have identified Hojlund as a solution.

However, club legend Alessandro Costacurta is not convinced that Hojlund is ultimately good enough to make a substantive difference.

Speaking to Sky Italia about Hojlund and alternative target Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus, Costacurta expressed his doubts.

Costacurta said: “Neither is extraordinary, but both can help. If the team helps them, they can lend a hand, but neither of them scores goals on their own.

“Milan has chosen a coach who can help them win, but I’m not so sure this team can help the centre forward.

“In my opinion, Milan needs a sensational centre forward, and neither Hojlund nor Vlahovic are that.”

He compared the pair to current Milan forward Santiago Gimenez, commenting: “Gimenez, in my opinion, is no less than either of them.”

Hojlund might be wary on Costacurta warning

Alessandro Costacurta’s concerns are two-fold. One is that Rasmus Hojlund is not good enough to conjure chances out of nothing and transform the team.

The second related worry is about Milan lacking the tools to help get the most out of their striker.

It is this worry that could set off a red alert for Rasmus Hojlund and his representatives at a delicate moment in his career.

Hojlund needs the 2025/26 season to be a success, wherever he signs. Part of his problem at Manchester United was playing in a team that struggled to create chances.

This looks like being less of a concern next season with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeuma brought in to help the attack, placing Benjamin Sesko in a better position to succeed than Hojlund ever was, and perhaps intensifying the Dane’s desire to stay.
