Cristiano Ronaldo could not resist a peek. The Al-Nassr star was caught reading the opposition's tactical note during Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Al Ittihad, and the moment went viral.

It happened in the closing stages in Jeddah. Al Ittihad boss Jens Wissing handed Portuguese centre-back Danilo Pereira a piece of paper with instructions, and the captain carried it onto the pitch.

As he read, Ronaldo peered over his shoulder. When Danilo noticed, the pair burst out laughing.

Ronaldo's viral moment in a night to forget

The antics provided the highlight of the night, because the football was a struggle for Ange Postecoglou's side.

George Ilenikhena gave Al Ittihad the perfect start, heading home in the fourth minute, and doubled the lead after 22 minutes with a composed left-footed finish. Angelo pulled one back for the visitors in the 36th minute, but that was as close as Al-Nassr got.

The numbers told the story of the first half. Al Ittihad recorded nine shots compared with three from the visitors.

Ronaldo had his moments. He tested the goalkeeper inside two minutes, released Joao Felix with a through ball, and forced a save with a left-footed effort after the break. None of it was enough.

It was Al-Nassr's first defeat of the season under Postecoglou, who had won all five games before this one.

There was further bad news in the 60th minute when Kingsley Coman left the pitch appearing to be injured, a worry for the coaching staff with the schedule piling up.

Sadio Mane and Joao Felix pushed for an equaliser in six minutes of added time, but the home side held on to silence the errors at the back.

Al-Nassr now turn their attention to Wednesday's meeting with Abha Club, a quick chance to respond.

For Ronaldo, the football will be forgotten soon enough. The video of him reading the secret note, caught red-handed, is the one that will live on.
