Asia Cup Likely To Be Postponed Amid India-Pakistan Tensions After Pahalgam Terror Attack: Report

The tensions between India and Pakistan have massively escalated after the dastardly attack in the Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam , South Kashmir on April 22. While there have been several diplomatic and political steps that have been taken, it looks like the tension between the two countries is also set to hit the cricket field. The two countries are next set to take on each other in the Asia Cup 2025 which is likely to be held in September in the T20 format. However, a crackdown might be expected in this tournament.

According to a report by The Times of India, the Asia Cup 2025 might be postponed as the government feels that cricketing ties between India and Pakistan are not ideal at this stage. The tournament was earlier scheduled to be held in India, but reports stated that it would be held at a neutral venue. The dates and the venue have not been finalized yet, and it looks like there will not be any development on this in the near future.

India Vs Bangladesh Series Also Likely To Be Cancelled

India is scheduled to travel to Bangladesh for a white-ball series in August. This included three ODIs and three T20Is, which are to be held in two venues- Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka and Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram.

However, this tour is likely to be cancelled after some developments amidst the cross-border tensions after the Pahalgam attack, according to The Times of India.

A retired Bangladesh army officer who is close to the current interim government stirred controversy when he said that the northeastern states should be occupied by them if Pakistan attacks India. In a statement on social media, Maj Gen (retired) ALM Fazlur Rahman even stated that they should talk with China for a joint military operation.

“The tour is part of the calendar, but nothing is final yet. There is a bright possibility of India not touring Bangladesh for the ODIs and T20Is because of the current situation," a source close to developments told the publication.
