Steve Sarkisian's Reps Deny 'Inaccurate' Rumors Texas HC Is Eyeing Titans, NFL Jobs

Representatives Jimmy Sexton and Ed Marynowitz denied a report on Saturday that their client, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, is looking at NFL opportunities.

"Any reports regarding communications on coaching opportunities with NFL teams are patently false and wildly inaccurate," they said in a statement. "Sark is solely focused on coaching the University of Texas football team."

Sexton and Marynowitz were responding to a report from Dianna Russini of The Athletic, which said Sarkisian's representatives had "let NFL decision makers know" that Sarkisian is interested in potential NFL head coaching vacancies, including that of the Tennessee Titans.

The Titans fired head coach Brian Callahan last week, resulting in Mike McCoy replacing him on an interim basis.

Sarkisian, 51, is in the midst of his fifth season as the head coach at Texas after previously serving as head coach at Washington from 2009 to 2013 and USC from 2014 to 2015.

After going 34-29 at Washington and 12-6 at USC, Sarkisian spent time as an offensive coordinator at the University of Alabama and for the NFL's Atlanta Falcons, and he won a national title as the Crimson Tide's OC in 2020.

Sarkisian's stint at Texas has undoubtedly been the most successful one of his head coaching career, as he owns a 42-19 record.

Texas reached the College Football Playoff in each of the past two seasons under Sarkisian, making it all the way to the semifinal last season before falling to the eventual national champion Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Longhorns entered this season as the No. 1 team in the nation and a popular pick to win a national title, but they have struggled at times.

Texas fell 14-7 to Ohio State in the season opener and also surprisingly lost to Florida 29-21 a few weeks ago. At 5-2, Texas can ill afford another loss, or else a return trip to the CFP is unlikely.

Perhaps the biggest reason for Texas' struggles this season is the fact that highly touted quarterback Arch Manning hasn't taken to the starting job as seamlessly as expected.

Manning entered the season as the Heisman Trophy favorite, but he is completing just 60.3 percent of his passes for 1,449 yards with 12 touchdowns and five interceptions, while also rushing for 193 yards and five scores.

If Sarkisian were to land the Titans' head coaching job, he would take over a team that is among the worst in the NFL this season with a record of 1-6.

However, he would have the opportunity to work with a young, talented quarterback in former University of Miami signal-caller Cam Ward, who went first overall in the 2025 NFL draft.

Ward has only four touchdown passes compared to five interceptions, and nothing has come easy for him thus far, but an offensive guru like Sarkisian at head coach could be precisely what he needs in order to develop into a quality NFL quarterback.
