Second game into his T20I comeback, Babar Azam added another milestone to his illustrious career on Friday as he became the highest run-scorer in men’s T20I history. Babar achieved this feat during Pakistan’s confident nine wicket win over South Africa at home.The Pakistan captain entered the match needing just nine runs to surpass India’s Rohit Sharma, who previously held the record with 4231 runs in 151 innings. Azam achieved the feat in his 123rd innings as he finished unbeaten on 11 off 18 balls.Pakistan chased down South Africa’s modest target of 110 with ease to level the three-match T20I series 1-1.Apart from leading the run charts, Azam has also struck 36 half-centuries in T20 internationals.Since Rohit and Virat Kohli (who is at third with 4188 runs) have both retired from the format, Babar’s closest competitor among active players is Jos Buttler, who has 3869 runs in T20Is.Babar has opportunity to further add to his tally in the series-decider against South Africa, which will take place today on 01 November.
