Gordon Strachan has backed Tottenham to avoid a repeat of the damaging 2025/26 Premier League season. Spurs narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship on the final day, missing out on European football just one year on from winning the Europa League.

Strachan told Betway that Roberto De Zerbi has shades of Sir Alex Ferguson in his tactics, claiming that the manager's aggression will scare the squad into good shape. He said: "I can’t see Spurs doing that again, I really can’t.

"Not after spending that type of money, and not with the manager they’ve got, who's permanently angry - which is good. It's like Sir Alex, he was permanently angry, as long as he's [Roberto De Zerbi] got that drive to scare people into winning games of football and not getting beat.

"When I played with Sir Alex, it was not the fact that you had to win, you were just so scared of getting beat. So I think that's what De Zerbi does to these teams a little bit."

Fans have flooded Tottenham's social media pages with excitement following the unveiling of Savio as the newest summer signing. The Brazilian joins Spurs for an initial fee of £75million plus £10m in add-ons.

Supporters have made their feelings clear on Savio with one saying: "Welcome lad we've been waiting for you. Time to build a legacy here in Spurs and the Premier league."

Another added: "From shining at Girona to learning under Pep, and now cooked up by Roberto De Zerbi? Absolute masterclass signing. Savio is going to transform this attack entirely. Premier League isn't ready for this flair!"

Roberto De Zerbi will be able to register Savio in time to face Charlton Athletic on Wednesday, following confirmation of his signing for Tottenham today. The club had by midday to register new players to their squad in order for them to appear in the Carabao Cup tie against the Championship side.

Savio will be able to play in the game, but time is still running out on other transfer targets. Spurs and Manchester City are also in talks regarding Marmoush, but an agreement is yet to be reached.

Johan Lange has spoken out on the signing of Savio, explaining that the Brazilian has been on Tottenham's "radar for a while." The Spurs sporting director said: "Savio is someone who has been on our radar for a while and I'm delighted that he is now a Tottenham Hotspur player.

"He has already shown his quality at the highest level, and we believe his ability, style and mentality will be a great fit for the squad we are building here.

"I know he will excite our supporters every time he gets on the ball and I'm looking forward to watching his development under Roberto's coaching."

Following the confirmation of his Tottenham transfer, Savio has shared his excitement at becoming a Spurs player and working under Roberto De Zerbi. The newest summer signing said: "It's taken a while but I'm very happy to be here.

"It's a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world.

"As soon as I spoke to the Head Coach I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level, and I believe we can do that together, as a team."

Savinho has taken the No. 17 at Tottenham following his £85million move from Manchester City. He has taken Cristian Romero's former shirt just 10 days after the ex-Spurs defender moved to Atletico Madrid.

The 22-year-old has also reclaimed his former moniker of Savio, after going by Savinho at City. He originally wore 'Savio' on his shirt while at Girona, before changing it to 'Savinho' for City and when he debuted for the Brazil national team.

Now, the winger has returned to his roots with 'Savio' at Spurs.

The Tottenham manager has hailed Savinho for his "imagination and quality" after signing a deal with the north London outfit today. Roberto De Zerbi said: "Sávio is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions.

"He has the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity. We’re very pleased to have him with us, and I’m looking forward to working with him, helping him continue to grow and seeing him bring his personality to the team."
