KEY HIGHLIGHTS Rohit Sharma created history.

Rohit became first Indian opener to score 300 sixes.

He is only second to Chris Gayle.

India suffered a crushing 32-run defeat to Sri Lanka in the second ODI. The game followed a similar pattern to the first ODI where the Indian middle order crumbled to Sri Lanka spinners. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave the Men in Blue an electrifying start in a chase of 241, adding 97 runs for the first wicket, however, the wicket of Rohit Sharma triggered a collapse.

It was a battle between Indian batters and Jeff Vandersay and the Sri Lanka spinner came out on top, rattling India with a brilliant six-wicket haul. India could not stitch a decent partnership after the fall of Rohit Sharma and were bowled out for 208. Rohit Sharma will be very disappointed with how the team has fallen apart after his dismissals in both games. Rohit notched up two fifties in as many games but lacked support from other batters.

Chris Gayle tops the charts with 328 sixes as an opener to his name, followed by Rohit, who has bludgeoned 301 sixes. Rohit is third on the list of most ODI sixes, with 330 maximums to his name. He is also the only player in the world to hit over 600 (615) sixes in international cricket. Meanwhile, the Indian captain broke a massive record en route to a stunning 64 in the second ODI and became the first Indian batter to score 300 sixes in ODIs as an opener. Meanwhile, Rohit's aggressive intent at the top has worked wonders for him. He was on fire in the ODI World Cup and played a massive role in taking India to the final of the event undefeated. Given the poor show by middle order, it is debated if Rohit could curb his natural instinct and play risk-free cricket, however, the captain is in no mood to change.

“The reason I got 65 runs is because of the way I batted. When I bat like that there is bound to be risk taking and I'm not afraid to do that. Whenever you get out, whether you score 100, 50 or zero you feel disappointed if you don't get across the line. But that won't change my intent. We didn't play good cricket, that's why we lost the game,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation.
