4:23 pm CT September 5, 2026

HALF: Tulsa 10, OSU 3 | Ugly start to Eric Morris era for Cowboys

Jenni Carlson

The first half has been bad for Oklahoma State.

No two ways around that.

The Cowboy offense, expected to be high powered and high scoring, has struggled. No touchdowns. Only one field goal. Less than 200 total yards (151). Less than 100 yards both passing (81) and rushing (70). Caleb Hawkins has been outstanding, running hard and strong for 54 yards on 10 carries, but everything else has been meh to blah.

But worst of all is the injury to Jacob Sexton. The offensive lineman who transferred from OU after battling injury was injured on OSU's first possession. He was blocking down field and got his left leg rolled into. The lower part of the leg had to be stabilized before he could be carted off the field.

For a guy who was hurt in the first game of the season a year ago, too, it was the biggest offensive letdown.

If you want a bright spot, the OSU defense, a huge question mark going into the season, has largely played well. The Cowboys gave up a touchdown right at the end of the half, but they undoubtedly have been the stronger unit.

The OSU offense has got to get going in the second half. Otherwise, the bad will get worse with another loss to Tulsa.

4:15 pm CT September 5, 2026

0:21 left in second quarter: Tulsa 10, OSU 3 | Damari Alston rushes for 1-yard touchdown

Ben Hutchens

Tulsa running back Damari Alston takes a direct snap across the goal line.

To get the Golden Hurricane in the red zone, Tulsa receiver Jimmy Calloway wrestled a jump ball away from OSU corner LaDainian Fields at the OSU 1-yard line for a gain of 47 yards. Fields got his hands on the football, but Calloway elevated higher and pulled it away on his way down to the ground.

After the Cowboys forced an incompletion on third-and-goal, OSU defensive end Jaleel Johnson ran into Tulsa quarterback Baylor Hayes after the whistle, knocking him down. The unnecessary roughness penalty gave Tulsa a fresh set of downs.

4:00 pm CT September 5, 2026

2:04 left in second quarter: OSU 3, Tulsa 3 | Sam Keltner ties game with field goal

Ben Hutchens

Cowboy kicker Sam Keltner caps an eight-play, 62-yard drive with a 35-yard field goal. OSU receiver Wyatt Young caught four passes for 35 yards on the drive.

OSU has the ball on its 36.

3:21 pm CT September 5, 2026

2:18 left in first quarter: Tulsa 3, OSU 0 | Marlon Hauck makes a 40-yard field goal

Ben Hutchens

After Tulsa quarterback Baylor Hayes converted a fourth-and-4 with his legs from the OSU 31, Cowboy defensive end Keviyan Huddleston blew up a Tulsa trick play for a loss of 9 yards. Tulsa kicker Marlon Hauck makes the first field goal of his college career for the game’s first score.

Tulsa will kick off to OSU.

3:12 pm CT September 5, 2026

7:48 left in the first quarter: OSU 0, Tulsa 0 | Caleb Hawkins stopped on fourth down

How hot is it in Tulsa for Oklahoma State football game?

Joe Mussatto

The Oklahoma State football team dressed wisely, going all white here in Tulsa for Saturday's season opener.

While it's 97 degrees in Tulsa, the heat index has reached triple digits. OSU's radio broadcast reported the on-field temperature is 161 degrees at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

I went down on the field for a little bit with our guy Ben Hutchens. We put our hand on the turf and might as well have been touching a stovetop.

I can't imagine what it'd be like running around out there in pads. OSU has several tents set up on their sideline. Tulsa's bench is shaded. The heat is going to be a real factor here today. is going to be a real factor here today.
