Bryan Mbeumo and Matthijs de Ligt send same message after Man United draw to Spurs

Bryan Mbeumo and Matthijs de Ligt were on the scoresheet for Manchester United during the 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

There will be mixed feelings among the Manchester United fanbase about Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

A well-placed header from Bryan Mbeumo gave Ruben Amorim’s side the lead, and the Red Devils appeared comfortable keeping Tottenham out at the other end.

But former United target Mathys Tel drew the visitors level, and then Benjamin Sesko’s injury left United with 10 men. Richarlison fired Spurs in front and the Brazilian celebrated as though he’d won it for his side, but Matthijs de Ligt scored a towering header to salvage a point for United.

Two points dropped or one gained? It comes down to perspective for United, but both Bryan Mbeumo and De Ligt are feeling the same after the match.

Mbeumo focused on the positives in his post-match interview, but he couldn’t hide his frustration at the match on social media.

Similarly, De Ligt was sensational against Spurs and was fully deserving of his goal, but the Dutch defender also wanted more.

United’s scorers both took to Instagram after the match, and their messages to fans were almost identical.

As for Mbeumo, his caption read: Frustrating draw today but managed to come back again. Thanks for the fans again”

Man United’s mentality is improving

Last week, Cristiano Ronaldo questioned United’s mentality, and the Portuguese legend has a point – the standards at the club have dropped drastically in the past decade.

It is up to Amorim and his squad to turn that around, and there are still some clear flaws in this side.

For example, United are still yet to win a second half of football in the Premier League this season. Once again, a late collapse against Tottenham proved costly.

But as pointed out by Mbeumo, the team is fighting back to save points. Even with 10 men, United fought to bring a point back to Manchester on Saturday evening.

Slowly but surely, belief is returning and the mentality of the players is improving. With a five-game unbeaten streak, hopefully the momentum continues to build after the international break.
