Sean Dyche responds to Everton boo boys with honest verdict on time in charge

A growing number of fans are losing patience with Sean Dyche because of their pointless start and he has answered them back with this assessment of his Everton reign

Sean Dyche claims he would regard his Everton reign a success if he had to walk away tomorrow.

Some fans are losing patience with Dyche and although the board remain behind him, he knows these are difficult times with Everton pointless and propping up the Premier League. Dyche has slashed the wage bill and made a profit in the transfer market, all while keeping the club in the Premier League during his 20 months in charge.

Injury-hit Everton face a tricky clash with Leicester at the King Power Stadium on Saturday and the Everton boss said: “I regard it as a current and ongoing success because people only know that much of the challenge.

“It’s not fair on supporters to know everything, but there have been huge amounts of shifts here. We’ve brought in tens and tens of millions in fees, we’ve got tens of millions off the wage bill, safeguarding the club, while trying to development teams that can excite and win and trying to get young players through the system.

“All these challenges, they’re right there in front of everyone’s eyes. I can see it all. Whatever happens next, whether people want me or don’t want me, it’s not going to take away the amount of work and effort that’s put in to balance out the situation as best as I can.

“Not just me, but there are lots of other people as well. The staff, the players, all the challenges that have come our way. So if you said ‘stop, stand still now’, I would still be proud of everything. But the fact is you haven’t said ‘stop, stand still’ and until that moment comes I’ll be working my rear off continuing to find a way.

“I don’t sit here and say I’ve done my bit. Absolutely not. I’ve maintained that all the way through. There are miles to go, miles to go. They tell me they want the truth, I give them the truth. There’s not a flick of a switch and we have solved everything. There are miles to go in the journey of Everton Football Club to get it back to where it wants to be and where it should be.”

Dyche was also keen to dismiss claims he will pocket a sizeable pay-off, even if he leaves just days before his contract expires next summer. “What I will correct is that there seems to be a story going round about my contract,” he said. “That’s nonsense.

“My contract is going down day by day. End of story. You might as well get rid of that one. I don’t think it’s right when the world makes up stories that then get heat and I then get heat on situations that have nothing to do with me.

“Absolute fact is that my contract is running down by the minute. That’s it. The story was I get paid whether I’m here or not or whether I have one day on my contract or 10 years. That’s absolute nonsense. That’s just fair as me as a person to say: judge me by my work, that’s fine, but don’t try and slight me as a person because that’s not fair, it’s just not the case.”
