‘Newcastle confident of agreeing Alexander Isak deal after Liverpool latest’

Newcastle United are growing in confidence that they will reach an agreement with Alexander Isak to extend his current contract.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that progress has been made in talks with the 25-year-old.

Despite interest from the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, the Magpies have no intention of letting him go and there is a “good feeling” terms will be agreed.

Football Insider revealed in May that Newcastle will price clubs out of signing Isak with a British-record £150million price tag now placed on his head.

Instead, Eddie Howe’s side are planning to build their squad around Isak in a show of ambition that they want to push on after qualifying for the Champions League.

As a result, Football Insider revealed that Liverpool are unlikely to meet Newcastle’s asking price and will be forced to consider alternative targets.

Newcastle doing everything to agree Alexander Isak deal

Brown told Football Insider in March that Newcastle want Isak to sign a new contract and are doing everything they can to reach an agreement.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has claimed Newcastle are prepared to make Isak the highest-paid player in their history.

“Newcastle are confident Isak will stay,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve been speaking to him about a new contract and I hear they’ve made progress there.

“It’s been mentioned that he could be the highest-paid player in their history, and if that’s what it takes to get him to sign, I expect them to do it.

“There’s been interest from Liverpool and Arsenal too, but that’s unlikely at the moment.

“Newcastle are planning to make improvements to the squad this summer, if they can do that it will prove to Isak that they are ambitious and want to press on.

“They haven’t fount it easy so far, though, and have missed out on a couple of deals.

“From their point of view, it makes it even more important that they keep their best players.

“Isak is the main man there and they want to build around him for the future.

Noni Madueke update emerges at St James’ Park

Alongside their desire to keep Isak at St James’ Park, the Magpies are aiming to add quality around him, and have set their sights on Chelsea’s Noni Madueke.

Brown told Football Insider on 1 July that Newcastle want to sign Madueke after their £45million bid for Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga was rejected.

However, they are unlikely to be alone in their efforts to sign the winger should he become available, with the likes of Tottenham and Aston Villa tracking the situation.

Howe’s side have been long-term admirers of Madueke after Football Insider revealed in August 2024 that Newcastle could sign Madueke for £30million.
