Mo Salah issues public statement after Liverpool legend's nightmare start with new club

Mohamed Salah's Trabzonspor side were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday and the former Liverpool star has spoken out on social media after his manager's resignation was blocked

Mohamed Salah has released a statement following a tumultuous start at his new club, Trabzonspor. The former Liverpool star joined the club in the summer after bringing his Anfield career to an end.

The Turkish side were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday evening after being hammered 4-0 by Ferencvaros. Salah's side drop into the Conference League as a result, after the Egyptian was powerless to help the Super Lig side from falling to defeat, and was replaced after 64 minutes.

Trabzonspor boss Fatih Tekke announced his resignation in a stunning press conference following the match. "I think I have the right to punish myself in this way," he said.

The club swiftly rejected Tekke's offer, however. "Fatih Tekke has decided to resign due to the emotional intensity caused by the defeat following the Ferencvaros match," a club statement read.

"As the Trabzonspor Board of Directors, Fatih Tekke's resignation decision has not been accepted. Fatih Tekke continues in his role and will be at the helm of our team in the Amedspor match we will play in the league."

Now, Salah has issued a rallying cry. The veteran forward reaffirmed his ambitions for success with the club.

"Nothing in my career ever came easy," he posted on X. "Bad nights and disappointments are part of football, and I have learned to turn them into motivation and into trophies.

"Trabzonspor is my club, and I am part of this project, body and soul. Last night will not change that. I know expectations are high, and I truly believe we can and will deliver. “I came here to win” is not just a slogan to me."

Salah left Liverpool at the end of the season after agreeing to terminate his contract. Trabzonspor ultimately won the race for his signature following the World Cup, seeing the 34-year-old arrive to a great deal of fanfare.

After signing a two-year contract, he said: "The last couple of days, it's an experience I have never had in my life.

"I'm here to win. I want to win something with this club because you guys have showed me so much love, and I really, really appreciate that."
