Spurs players were unable to relieve the pressure that is mounting on their manager Ange Postecoglou as the club fell short to Nottingham Forest on Monday.

Back-to-back goals in 20 minutes for Forest saw Spurs slide further down the Premier League standings as their rivals climbed from sixth to third overall with the 2-1 victory.

Postecoglou's men looked to almost be trailing 3-0 at the half time break but an offside VAR ruling denied New Zealand sensation Chris Wood of a goal.

Wood found the back of the net from close range just five minutes after his teammate Elliot Anderson, striking the ball from inside the box past Spurs keeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Anderson sent a long ball into his striker but a review of the goal found Wood had travelled into an offside position in the build up to the play.

The denied effort was not enough to rattle Wood's bid to put another point on the board for his visiting team as he sent the ball back into the net again just six minutes later.

Spurs shifted momentum back into their favour following Wood's goal and dominated in possession, yet the hosts seemingly could not apply much of a threat.

Tottenham tested goalkeeper Matz Sels with 22 shots, though only six were on target. Richarlison was the only person to pass the Belgian star as he put a point on the board for the home side with three minutes of regular time remaining.

"I'm really disappointed with the goals we conceded, and the most frustrating thing is that outside of that, I thought our football was outstanding," Postecoglou said.

"Its only after we conceded that we woke up and started playing our football, but I just said we can't give teams two-goal headstarts."

It marks the 18th defeat in the Premier League season for Spurs as all eyes turn to the side's hopes of collecting a piece of silverware in the Europa League.

Having fallen to 16th in the table, Postecoglou's side are on track to record their worst finish in the club's history in the English competition.

"It's a game we should never lose, another we have let slip," the Australian said.

"I don't think we deserved to lose that game. We had enough chances and our football was good.

"That has been our problem all year. It is not about our football but about maintaining focus and concentration throughout the whole game.

"There are too many games this year where we have lost in that manner and that is why we are in the position we are."

Spurs will face Norwegian club Bodo/Glimt next month in the Europa League semi finals.

If Postecoglou's side is to win the competition, it will guarantee the club a spot in next season's Champions League draw.

Prior to that, Spurs will face ladder-leaders Liverpool as Forest will take on Manchester City in the FA Cup semi finals on Monday.
