Dutch giants among European sides interested in wantaway Wolverhampton Wanderers man

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Tolu Arokodare looks set to leave the club this summer and Ajax have joined the race for his signature, according to reporter Nicola Schira.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ relegation from the Premier League has triggered a significant squad overhaul, with several key players already departing Molineux. Joao Gomes has completed a move to local rivals Aston Villa after a proposed switch to Atlético Madrid collapsed.

Gomes may not be the only high-profile exit this summer either. Striker Tolu Arokodare is attracting growing interest from a number of clubs with Ajax the latest side to join the race for his signature, according to reporter Nicola Schira.

Serie A side Genoa and Turkish outfit Trabzonspor are also eyeing a move for the Nigerian forward. Arokodare had been eyeing a move to Fiorentina after they had a bid rejected for him already this summer.

The striker has recently forced the cancellation of a training session after he refused to leave the pitch. This came after he demanded the club let him leave to join Fiorentina after they accepted a bid from Trabzonspor.

What has gone wrong for Tolu Arokodare?

Before joining Wolves, Arokodare had established himself as one of the Belgian Pro League’s most prolific forwards, scoring 22 goals in the 2024/25 campaign. There was hope he would replicate that form at Molineux, but his first season in England proved much tougher.

The Nigerian initially found himself behind Jorgen Strand Larsen in the pecking order, with the Norwegian keeping his place despite an inconsistent campaign of his own. When Arokodare did get chances, he struggled to make an impact and rarely looked capable of forcing his way into the starting XI.

Despite his imposing physical presence, the 25-year-old found it difficult to hold the ball up effectively and often failed to bring teammates into play. He also squandered several clear-cut chances, with a lack of confidence evident throughout much of his time on the pitch.

A summer departure has long seemed the most likely outcome. Whether on loan or in a permanent transfer, a fresh start would appear to be the best solution for both Arokodare and Wolves.

It looks increasingly unlikely that Arokodare will still be a Wolves player when the Championship season begins. Wolves open against Port Vale in the Carabao Cup before facing Blackburn Rovers in their league opener, and his future should be settled before then.

Arokodare joined Molineux in a £24m deal, a fee that reflects Premier League expectations rather than Championship football. After a disappointing season, the 24-year-old is unlikely to want another year in the second tier, especially with Serie A clubs interested.

That interest gives him a real chance to move on and play at a higher level. For Wolves, the best outcome is a quick sale.

They can still push for the right fee, but this should not drag into the start of the season. With the player keen to leave, Wolves should get the deal done soon and bring in a forward who wants to be there.
