Deadpool vs. Wolverine in English soccer? Hugh Jackman targets Norwich to challenge Ryan Reynolds

Hugh Jackman could star in a new "rivalry" withRyan Reynolds, although this time far from theMarvel movies. The Australian actor has confirmed that he is negotiating the possibility of acquiring a stake in Norwich City, a team that currently plays in the Championship, the second tier of English football.'

Jackman acknowledged his interest during an interview with talkSPORTwhile promoting his new film, "The Death of Robin Hood." Asked about the possibility of following in the footsteps of his friend Ryan Reynolds and investing in a football club, the actor was clear: "I am very, very interested and we are talking about it right now."

At the moment, it has not been announced that the deal is closed, nor has it been specified what percentage of Norwich the actor could acquire. The club itself has confirmed that talks between Jackman and its owners are underway.

The possible deal has added appeal because of the personal relationship between Jackman and Reynolds. Both actors are friends and share the leading role in "Deadpool & Wolverine". Reynolds is also co-owner of Wrexham alongside Rob McElhenney since 2021.

Wolverine and Deadpool could be rivals in the Championship

If Jackman ends up joining Norwich's shareholding, the two actors could become owners of clubs competing in the same division. Norwich and Wrexham are currently part of the Championship and could face each other at least twice during the season.

The situation is especially striking because of the relationship between the two actors. In fact, Jackman used the interview to joke about Reynolds' investment in English football. "Good for Ryan, you do your thing. I'm a Canaries supporter," he said, referring to the nickname by which Norwich is known.

The actor also expressed optimism about the team's sporting future. "I think it's an exciting team and it's going to be an exciting year," he said, before making his own prediction for the season: he believes that both Norwich and Wrexham will achieve promotion to the Premier League.

Jackman's connection to Norwich is not recent, nor is it solely due to the growing presence of Hollywood stars in English football. The actor has supported the club since childhood, due to his mother's ties to the city.

Jackman was born in Sydney in 1968, but his mother is originally from Norwich. As he has explained on previous occasions, he began following the team when he was a child and has maintained his connection with the Canaries ever since.

Interestingly, this is not the first time the actor has had the chance to invest in the club. Jackman previously said that around 2010 he received an offer to become a minority investor in Norwich, but he decided to turn it down because he had only been to Carrow Road once. Over the years, he himself has acknowledged that decision was a mistake.

The celebrities who have entered English football

Jackman's possible arrival is part of an increasingly common trend in British football: the involvement of celebrities and top-level athletes in the ownership of clubs.

The best-known case is precisely that of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who acquired Wrexham in 2021 and have accompanied the Welsh club through a spectacular sporting rise. The team went from the National League, the fifth tier of English football, to the Championship after three consecutive promotions between 2022 and 2025.

Reynolds is not, however, the only actor who has invested in football. Michael B. Jordan has a stake in Bournemouth, while Will Ferrell is a shareholder in Leeds United. Singer Ed Sheeran also owns a minority stake in Ipswich Town.
