Queiroz says resignation will not solve Ghana football problems

Ghana national team head coach Carlos Queiroz said that his resignation would not solve the problems of Ghanaian football. In their second 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, Ghana surrendered a two-goal lead in Accra and lost 2–4 to Gambia.

Coach's reaction

After the match, calls intensified for the Ghana Football Association to dismiss the Portuguese specialist. During the post-match press conference, some Ghanaians directly suggested that Queiroz resign, MyJoyOnline reports.

Queiroz said that resignation may seem like the simplest solution after such a result. At the same time, he noted that if he believed dismissing the coach could change the situation in Ghanaian football, he would be the first to resign.

According to the coach, he does not share that view. The decision on his possible dismissal, Queiroz added, should be considered and made by the leadership of the Ghana Football Association.

Start of qualification

The defeat to Gambia was Ghana's second consecutive loss in qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. In their opening qualifying match, the Ghanaian team lost 0–2 to Côte d'Ivoire.

Ghana's national team is seeking to return to the continental tournament after missing the previous edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.
