See you later

We're going to have a break from the live text to recharge before the night session.

We'll be back for the tasty fourth-round tie later between former two-time French Open finalist Casper Ruud and Novak Djokovic's third-round conqueror Joao Fonseca.

Coverage of that match begins live on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra from 19:15 BST.

Abdreeva wins first set

*Andreeva 6-3 0-0 Teichmann

On Court Suzanne-Lenglen, Russian eighth seed Mirra Andreeva has taken the first set 6-3 against Switzerland's Jil Teichmann.

The winner of that match will book a quarter-final spot against Romanian 18th seed Sorana Cirstea.

Cirstea, 36, has said she will retire at the end of the year but is enjoying one of the best spells of her 20-year career.

What else has happened and what's to come?

The day started with a surprise defeat for four-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek, who was ousted by in-form 15th seed Marta Kostyuk.

Kostyuk set up a quarter-final tie with fellow Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, with the seventh seed beating Belinda Bencic in three sets.

Elsewhere, 36-year-old Romanian Sorana Cirstea reached the quarter-finals with a straight-set win over China's Wang Xiyu.

Later this evening, Norwegian 15th seed Casper Ruud takes on Brazilian 28th seed Joao Fonseca in the night session.

You can listen to commentary of that match on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra from 19:15 BST.

'I prefer when it's hot'

De Jong 6-7 (3-7) 4-6 1-6 Zverev

Alexander Zverev on playing in cooler conditions, with the temperature around 24C in Paris today which is 10C cooler than last week:

"I prefer when it’s hot to be honest. I like heat, I feel like my ball is a lot faster, everything is faster through the air and my opponents struggle more which is always nice.

“I spend a lot of time in Florida so I’m used to the heat and conditions. It’s like Germany here, it can change in one day, so I’m used to that and I like showing good tennis.”

De Jong 6-7 (3-7) 4-6 1-6 Zverev

Alexander Zverev on facing 19-year-old Spaniard Rafael Jodar in the quarter-finals:

"He is a very young player, incredibly talented, he's come on the scene this clay-court season.

"He's playing incredible tennis, it's going to be a very difficult challenge but I have to trust myself and I'll be ready for it."

'I know my game is there'

De Jong 6-7 (3-7) 4-6 1-6 Zverev

Alexander Zverev speaking on court after his victory over Jesper de Jong:

"In the beginning it was a bit difficult, I didn't start off strong and he started really fast and well.

"But once I found rhythm I felt comfortable on court, and that's the main thing for me.

"I know my game is there and it's about showing it on match courts."

Game, set and match Zverev

De Jong 6-7 (3-7) 4-6 1-6 Zverev

Alexander Zverev wraps up the game and set quickly to take his place in the quarter-finals.

The German second seed started the match slowly but grew into it and underlined his tag as the favourite to win the tournament by the end against a fading Jesper de Jong - who was beaten in French Open qualifying but reinstated as a 'lucky loser'.

He will face Spanish 27th seed Rafael Jodar in the last-eight.

Zverev breaks again

De Jong 6-7 (3-7) 4-6 1-5 Zverev*

Alexander Zverev thought about a between-the-legs shot there but decided to leave the ball and it was the right decision as it dropped out.

Two points later and the German second seed has the double break with a superb forehand winner across court which Jesper de Jong can only admire.

Zverev will now serve for a place in the quarter-finals.

De Jong holds

De Jong 6-7 (3-7) 4-6 1-3 Zverev*

Alexander Zverev is striking the ball so cleanly and arrows a forehand winner down the line.

Jesper de Jong does well to keep his nose ahead in the game though, and takes advantage of a loose Zverev drop by securing the hold next point with a strong first serve.

Zverev holds

*De Jong 6-7 (3-7) 4-6 0-3 Zverev

Alexander Zverev continues to serve well with Jesper de Jong unable to make any inroads.

The German second seed has had a dominant start to this third set and is sailing towards the last eight as it stands.

Zverev breaks in third set

De Jong 6-7 (3-7) 4-6 0-2 Zverev*

Eight points in a row for Alexander Zverev at the start of the third set and he has the all-important break of serve as he looks to close out a straight-set win.

There were a couple of superb winners in that game from the German, who watched a Jesper de Jong lob drift over his head and land out on break point.

Zverev holds

*De Jong 6-7 (3-7) 4-6 0-1 Zverev

A routine service hold to love at the start of the third set for Alexander Zverev, who has only dropped the one set on his way to the fourth round at Roland Garros.

If he can get this done in straight sets and conserve as much energy as possible for the rest of the tournament, that would surely only improve his chances of clinching that first major title.

Who will Cirstea face in quarter-finals?

Andreeva v Teichmann

Romanian 18th seed Sorana Cirstea is into the quarter-finals of the French Open for the second time in her career, 17 years after her first appearance in the last eight.

Her next opponent will either be Swiss player Jil Teichmann or Russian eighth seed Mirra Andreeva, who was just two years old when Cirstea first reached the French Open quarter-finals in 2009.

Teichmann and Andreeva have just got under way on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

Game and second set - Zverev

De Jong 6-7 (3-7) 4-6 0-0 Zverev*

Alexander Zverev gets the better of a couple of rallies, forcing Jesper de Jong into mistakes as the German brings up two set points.

Zverev takes them at the first opportunity as De Jong is unable to return a rasping forehand into his toes.

Zverev upped his game there when it mattered and he is now one set away from the quarter-finals.

Post

*De Jong 6-7 (3-7) 4-5 Zverev

Annabel Croft

Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

I've watched so many of Alexander Zverev's matches during his career and I actually do admire his work ethic - because I see what he does on the practice court and with fitness, and the team he's put around it - and I think he's so determined, and you underestimate him at your peril.

But he has put in some horror performances, interspersed with some amazing performances - even though he's been unbelievably consistent.

That serve problem and the forehand problem can rear its ugly head at any moment, and you just don't know when it's going to come, and that's what makes me doubt him a little bit for this title.

Zverev holds

*De Jong 6-7 (3-7) 3-4 Zverev

Jesper de Jong is disappointed in himself as he misses a simple shot at the net, before firing a backhand long to give Alexander Zverev the hold.

I can't help but think of Lleyton Hewitt watching De Jong play, which is largely down to his backwards white cap.
