We will wrap-up the IPL 2026 Saturday double-header action this weekend with the high-voltage clash between the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on April 18, from 7:30 p.m. local time.

Both the teams are currently well balanced with 4 points each but have had a different kind of journey to one another in their opening five matches of the season. SRH pulled-off two victories here and there while CSK lost all of their three opening games but coming into this one off the back of back-to-back wins at home.

In the head-to-head contest, this is a game where Chennai Super Kings have the edge over their opponents. Of the 22 square-offs, CSK have been victorious on 15 occasions while SRH have won only 7 matches. But it's been pretty even-steven in the last couple of years. Since 2023, both teams have won 2 games each while SRH won the one and only match-up between the two teams in 2025.

For SRH, Abhishek Sharma and Harshal Patel would be the center of attention in this clash. Abhishek has had a mixed start so far but he likes going up against CSK having scored 251 runs at a strike rate of 153.00. Ishan Kishan has also scored 282 runs against the yellow army. Meanwhile, Harshal Patel has been a serious threat for CSK in his career, bagging 21 wickets. SRH captain Pat Cummins cleared a fitness test in Australia and will join the team tomorrow, but his availability is not confirmed officially.

For the yellow side, new signing Sanju Samson would play a crucial role. He has the best record against SRH among all the other CSK batters having scored 867 runs at a strike rate of 139.29 and average of 45.63. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is going through a lean patch right now, would be eager to take on SRH having scored 394 runs at a strike rate of 153.33 and average of 56.29. Meanwhile, CSK’s bowling attack is fairly inexperienced against the Orange Army.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Preview

The Sunrisers Hyderabad have had a mixed start to the IPL 2026 season. They have played 5 games in which they have shown inconsistency, winning twice and losing 3 matches. The two wins came against bottom placed KKR and recently beat in-form Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs in the last game.

In their superb victory over the Rajasthan Royals, who were unbeaten by then, the Orange Army scored 216/6 led by the fantastic knock from their captain Ishan Kishan. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 91 runs off 44 balls at a strike rate of 206.82 and got good support from the middle-lower order batters like Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Salil Arora.

Then with the ball we saw a fantastic display from two debutants, Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain. Hinge in his maiden over in IPL bagged 3 wickets including getting Vaibhav Sooryavanshi out for golden duck. Sakib also followed with a wicket in his first over. At one stage, RR were teetering at 5 wickets down for 9 runs. Eventually, SRH won the match by 57 runs with both Hinge and Sakib taking 4 wickets each.

Overall this season so far, Heinrich Klaasen is the top run scorer with 224 runs. He has been a force to reckon with in the middle phase. He is a destructive force against spin bowling and a pretty solid batter against pace, striking at 142.68 this season as he has mostly been involved in rebuilding the innings. He can be a good pick for SRH's top batter.

Ishan Kishan has scored 213 runs including his best performance of the season coming against Rajasthan Royals in the last game.

However, the major disappointment so far has been their opening combination. Known for their aggressive starts at the top, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head have failed to replicate the same this season. Sharma has scored 129 runs and Head scored only 120 runs. The Orange Army seems to have a very good batting line-up, just needs both Abhishek and Head to fire at the top.

With the ball, they have had a rough start with the captain and main pace bowling spearhead Pat Cummins missing the start of the season due to injury recovery. So far Harsh Dubey and Eshan Malinga are the top bagsman for the side with 5 wickets each. Praful Hinge and Sakib’s performance has already put them on the neck of the two and it seems like a very formidable bowling attack.

Another debutant Shivang Kumar has taken 4 wickets while experienced veteran Jaydev Unadkat has taken 4 scalps. But their main bowler outside of Cummins, Harshal Patel has gone wicketless in three matches he has played and was dropped from the team for the Rajasthan game. But he has a significant strong record against CSK, it would be interesting whether he is back in the fold.

Chennai Super Kings Preview

After finishing bottom of the points table last season, the Chennai Super Kings fans had already lost hopes when the Ruturaj Gaikwad led side began the season with three back-to-back defeats. But it has been a great turn-around from the boys in yellow, winning both of their last two games, at home at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, however, their away record is two losses in two.

The comeback started with a spectacular 23 runs win against an in-form Delhi Capitals and followed it with a dominating display against bottom of the table KKR. CSK put 192 runs on the board thanks to some decent contributions from the likes of Sanju Samson (48 runs off 32 balls), Ayush Mhatre (38 runs off 17 balls) and Dewald Brevis (41 runs off 29 balls). Ayush Mhatre could be the best pick for top CSK batter.

But it is the bowling unit that did the job. They never allowed Kolkata Knight Riders to be in the game, bowling critical in powerplay and eventually restricted them to 160. Noor Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets while Anshul Kamboj bagged 2.

So far, Chennai Super Kings have relied on new signing Sanju Samson and youngster Ayush Mhatre to fire with the bat. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is having a lean patch and scored only 63 runs in 5 innings but Sanju Samson has taken the charge. It was a slow start, but once he got the much needed confidence booster century (115 unbeaten) vs Delhi Capitals, he has fired all cylinders, scoring 185 runs at a strike rate of 172.90 and average of 46.25.

Ayush Mhatre at number three has ensured that despite losing the key wicket of skipper Gaikwad early, Mhatre has carried on playing with aggressive intent and putting the opposition bowlers under pressure. The 18-year-old youngster has scored 171 runs at a strike rate of 171.00 and average of 34.20. His best performance of 59 runs also came against Delhi Capitals.

Sarfaraz Khan, who was touted as the best buy of the IPL 2026 Auction has definitely done well with 122 runs on the board in 4 innings at an impressive strike rate of 182.09 and his performance of 50 (25) truly won hearts of many CSK fans. But it is Shivam Dube who has been performing below par but Jamie Overton has been compensating well for that. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni is yet to recover and is not going to play in this game too.

Other than 87 runs on the board in three innings, Overton has also taken 5 wickets including 4/18 vs Delhi Capitals that helped them to return to winning ways. But it is Anshul Kamboj who is at the top of the pile with 10 scalps, taking 2 or more wickets barring one game against RCB.

Noor Ahmad with his 3-fer vs KKR has now 4 wickets to his name while Khaleel Ahmed has been a little disappointing with just 2 wickets in 5 matches for the left-arm pacer, who has now been ruled out with an injury. This would now allow opportunity for the likes of Mukesh Choudhary or Prashant Veer.

The pitch at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad for IPL 2026 is a batting paradise - flat, hard, and with true consistent bounce that lets batters play their shots freely from the start. The quick outfield and relatively short boundaries make it ideal for big hitting.

Pacers get a hint of movement or seam with the new ball in the powerplay, but the surface settles down quickly. Spinners need clever variations to control the middle overs. 220-260 is a typical IPL score at the venue, however this season, the average first innings score is 186 and the highest score is 216.
