Asian Games 2026 Day 3 Live updates: After two medals on Day 2 of the Asian Games, Day 3 has begun on an emphatic note for India, with shooting and MMA bringing glory. In the first five hours, India had already won four medals. The campaign began with the men’s shooting team of Rudrankksh Patil, Himanshu Dhillon and Parth Mane clinching silver in the 10m air rifle team event, before Suchika Tariyal won India’s first MMA medal at the Games. Nataraj finishes last!

India's swimming ace Srihari Nataraj finishes 10th and last in the men's 50m backstroke final, with a timing of 25.52s. He had earlier qualified from the heats with a timing of 25.37s, as the only Indian. With his personal best of 25.18s in the event, which is also the national record set in 2021, the 2025 Asian Championships silver medallist is bound to be disappointed with this timing. Into his third Asian Games, the 25-year-old is still searching for his big-stage continental breakthrough competing against the Chinese, Koreans and Japanese.

Suchika Tariyal had already done the hard part. She had taken her women’s traditional 60kg semifinal against Singapore’s Tiffany Teo Hui Hoon into overtime, fought through a closely-contested bout and believed she had done enough to reach the Asian Games final. (Read Full Story)

India dominate Bangladesh in badminton!

India began their badminton team event campaign with a 3-0 win over Bangladesh in the first round. Lakshya Sen got India off to a strong start, beating Ayman Jaman 21-4, 21-12 in the opening match. Ayush Shetty then followed it up with another comfortable win, defeating Gourab Singha 21-4, 21-13 to put India 2-0 ahead. Kidambi Srikanth had to work a little harder in the third match, with Al-Amin Jumar putting up a better fight, especially in the opening game. Srikanth, though, picked up the pace at the right time and won 21-15, 21-12 to seal the tie. With three wins in a row, India wrapped up the tie 3-0 and did not need to play the remaining two matches as they moved ahead in the team event.

The second game had a similar start, but Srikanth once again picked up the tempo late in the game and managed to outclass Al-Amin Jumar 21-12. India win the first round 3-0 in dominant fashion, with Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty winning the first two matches comfortably. Kidambi had to sweat a bit, but he too got past his opponent to ensure India did not need to play the next two matches in the first round and moved ahead in the team event.

Kidambi Srikanth had a shaky start but bounced back well to clinch the opening game of the third match. It was a tight contest in the first half, but Kidambi picked up the tempo as the game progressed and went on to claim it 21-15 to take the lead.

Ayush Shetty helps India take 2-0 lead!

Gourab Singha did put up a fight in the second game, but Ayush Shetty remained clinical to close it out and give India a 2-0 lead in the tie. Shetty sealed the second game 21-12 after dominating the first 21-4. Kidambi Srikanth will now take the court in the third match for India.

Ayush Shetty clinches first game!

Ayush Shetty in the second game against Bangladesh and has made a dominant start for India, racing to an 11-0 lead to stamp his authority early in the game. Bangladesh's Gourab Singha tried to fight his way back, but it was already too late. The first game belonged to Ayush as well, with the Indian winning it 21-4 in dominant fashion.

Lakshya Sen won the opening tie 21-4 in just 10 minutes. That is precisely how long it took to reach the interval in the second game, where the Bangladeshi opponent put up quite a fight, reducing the gap to 11-13 before the Indian surged to a big lead, winning a flurry of points to close it out at 21-12.

Ayush Shetty is up next, against Gourab Singha.

Men's team badminton underway

Indian men's badminton team are up against Bangladesh in the first round. Lakshya Sen face Jaman Ayman Ibn in the first tie.

India win 17-1!

Three goals scored in the final quarter and India win 17-1 against Indonesia in women's Pool B match. This comprises hat-tricks from Deepika, Navneet Kaur and Pisal Rutuja.

India will take on Thailand on September 23.

India knocked out in soft tennis

The Indian mixed doubles pair of Jay Meena & Aadhya Tiwari, the Asian and World Championship bronze medallists, lost 2-5 (4–2, 2–4, 2–4, 3–5, 2–4, 5–3, 6–8) against the Philippines’ Sherwin Nuguit & Christy Sanosa, missing out on a place in the quarterfinals. They will return to action in singles events on September 22.
